World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Tanking and Survivability Changes

  • 0.Tanking and Survivability Changes02/04/2010 10:38:04 PM PST
We are making some adjustments to tank survivability based on what we’re seeing in Icecrown Citadel. We feel this is particularly important in preparation for upcoming Heroic attempts. This is tricky and occasionally subjective, so we might very well make more adjustments as we get even more data.

Paladin:
  • Sacred Duty now provides 2 / 4% Stamina, down from 4 / 8% Stamina. The cooldown advantages of the talent remain unchanged.
    Death Knight:
  • Frost Presence now provides 8% Stamina, up from 6% Stamina.
  • Icebound Fortitude now provides 30% base damage reduction, up from 20% damage reduction. For a geared tank with high defense, this translates to 50% damage reduction, up from 40%.

It’s important to note that we aren’t trying to single out paladins here. We like the tank balance of warriors and druids at the moment, and we have a larger sample size of warrior tanks that we can compare. Another solution would have been to buff warriors, death knights and druids and then increase boss damage accordingly. Obviously, that would have been a much larger change with greater risks and a longer delay.

Though Ardent Defender is always a possible target for changes, we like that this talent provides such a distinction between warriors and paladins. Rather than have all the tanks have the same health, armor, avoidance and cooldowns, we’d rather have four unique tanking classes rather than just superficial or artistic differences. Yes, that design is harder to balance, but we think class distinction is ultimately more interesting, which is better for the long term health of the game. The goal remains to have all four tanks be viable for any encounter, assuming sufficient gear and skill, and any differences in performance on individual encounters to be minor. “Minor” is obviously a subjective term.

Please note that the death knight change will result in a small survivability increase in PvP, which we think is appropriate. We chose it partially with that in mind.

How to do a perfect Rogue Stunlock in World of Warcraft

    Quoted from http://hubpages.com/hub/How_to_do_a_perfect_Rogue_Stunlock_in_World_of_Warcraft:

How to do a perfect Rogue Stunlock in World of Warcraft

    The key is patience

A perfect stunlock requires a lot of practice and more importantly requires a lot of patience on the part of the rogue. Stunlocks are not the function of a rogue by any means. They are, however, an important tool especially in group vs. group combat.

Here is the sequence for a perfect rogue stunlock in World of Warcraft. It should be noted that deadly poison will make a stunlock impossible, since the dot ticks will break saps, blinds and gouges.

    1. Open with a cheap shot. If this misses, the rogue should vanish and try again later. Pushing a bad opener usually results in a loss for the rogue.

    2. A cheap shot will give the rogue time for one combo point, so a sinister strike should be used before the cheap shot wears off.

    3. The next attack will be a three or four-point kidney shot, which will give the rogue time for one more sinister strike before changing sides.

    4. Before the kidney shot wears off, the rogue should move in front of their opponent and gouge. Combat rogues will find this gouge will give them a choice of how to continue. Non-combat rogues have only one choice.

    5. From the gouge, the combat rogue will have time to drop combat and restealth. Non-combat rogues have to burn their blind here so they can restealth.

    6. Both rogue builds, once re-stealthed, should sap their opponent in order to reset their attack cooldowns.

    7. From here, the rogue can cheap shot and start building combo points again, going from steps one through four.

    8. Once their opponent has been re-gouged, non-combat rogues will have to vanish in order to start the sequence again. Combat rogues should use their blind here, wait for combat to drop, then restealth.

    9. The rogue should continue from steps one and two this time, but replace the kidney shot in step three with eviscerate.

    10. If 15 combo points isn't enough to defeat your opponent, form a raid party and come back when the instance timer resets, or just wait until you're at least half your opponent's level.

    Story:
    Quel’Delar: The Sister Blade
In ages past the great Dragon Aspects worked alongside the night elves to forge powerful prismatic blades that could be used to thwart any evil that came into the world. They would become known as the blades of Quel’Serrar. One of these blades, which had become lost in time, was recently unearthed again by brave heroes of Azeroth. Now rediscovered, Quel’Serrar is revered once more as a mighty tool of raw power.
Its sister blade, however, has not been seen for many years...
    Quel'Delar
The sword known as Quel’Delar was held by the group of kaldorei who would eventully become the high elves, and it was handed down from generation to generation. Most recently Quel’Delar was wielded by the valiant high elven warrior Thalorien Dawnseeker. Thalorien fought tirelessly in the Troll Wars to defend his beloved home of Silvermoon, the Sunwell, and all of Quel’Thalas. When the Scourge swept through the lands during the Third War, Thalorien was among the last lines of defense for the Sunwell. Despite the sword’s power, he was ultimately slain by the overwhelming might of Arthas and his legendary runeblade, Frostmourne. Quel’Delar was thought to be lost forever.
Following the destruction of their homeland, the determined blood elves began to regroup and rebuild. It was during this time that the battle-hardened warrior Lana’thel stumbled upon Quel’Delar, and soon afterward the greatest opportunity to use the blade presented itself: Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider raised an army and combined forces with Illidan Stormrage, who led them north to Icecrown on a mission to destroy the Lich King. Lana’thel readily followed her prince with one thought in mind -- revenge against the Scourge -- but only tragedy awaited her.
    Queen of the San’layn
In the icy hills of Northrend, Arthas ultimately defeated Illidan and Kael’thas, and the expedition’s few survivors were scattered across the frozen wastes. One by one the Lich King sought out those who had challenged him, and Lana’thel found herself cornered. Using Quel’Delar, she struck at him with all her might... but Frostmourne’s evil powers overwhelmed her. Through his blade, the Lich King chose Lana’thel to serve him in undeath as queen of the San’layn, a group responsible for overseeing the Scourge’s operations across Azeroth.
Queen Lana’thel eagerly carried out her new duties, but every time she looked at her blade, maddening anger would swell within her as she remembered her former life. She could not afford such distractions, and with a scream that echoed throughout Icecrown, she shattered Quel’Delar and flung the fractured pieces as far as she could.
    Now...
The champions of the Alliance and the Horde who confront the Lich King’s armies have but a slim chance of finding the pieces of this fabled blade. If they succeed, the heroes can embark on an epic adventure to re-forge Quel’Delar. They will require the strongest materials and a source of great power to make this shattered blade into the fearsome weapon it once was. Several classes can use Quel’Delar, and the sword can fit several different play styles. For any class that is unable to wield it, however, the Sunreaver blood elves and the Silver Covenant high elves will gladly take this relic of their history in exchange for a usable weapon.
    The search begins soon...

Frost Death Knight Build – Best Death Knight DPS Spec | Dominate Your Server

Frost Death Knight Build – Best Death Knight DPS Spec | Dominate Your Server

Frost Tree Blood Presence Build Tops Charts In 3.3

Every now and then, a patch makes a big change to a class. You don’t always see the changes coming, and it often takes people a while to adjust. Anibow has been talking non-stop (not that there’s much news there) about frost spec since 3.3 and how he was going to do mega DPS now. We hadn’t seen any real evidence of that until the Simcraft engine spat out the following numbers from Starfox. Turn out – Ani was right. With a theoretical maximum of 10,511 – this build rivals even mages for chart topping Domination

    Gear

    http://www.wowhead.com/?profile=18133139

Since the build at simcraft didn’t contain the Pawn scales for this profile, you’ll just have to make do with looking for the best-in-slot gear from the profile itself.

    Talent Build

    http://www.wowhead.com/?profile=18133139#talents

    Glyphs

    Major

    Minor

    Runes

This is one case where the minor glyphs are as much a part of the build as the Major glyphs. Having the Horn of Winter glyph moves the horn of winter ability to the bottom of the priority list, although you will want horn of winter up before the pull for obvious reasons. We’ve also included the rune forging choices for each weapon to bring the entire thing in line with the build.

    Priorities

You can see that although this is quite a bit more complex than the Arcane mage priority list, it’s nothing compared to something from the Blood build rotations you’ve seen in the past. As you look at the chart below you get a good feel for just how easy this can be. Your mele weapon white swings do a big chunk of your DPS, so after you hit Empower Rune Weapon you can just wait for the Howling Blast cooldown, hit it and then start back with Icy Touch. Just be sure to throw in a raise dead whenever you can.

We know that the temptation is to mash buttons like a fiend, but it is really hard to argue with the numbers here. There are other DK DPS builds in the Starfox file with Priority lists that include internalized rotations – in more than one spot. If I want to think that hard about what I’m doing I’ll go engineer a bridge or something. The great thing about this build is that the priority list is simple and it does ridiculous DPS.

Obviously the fellow who built this profile doesn’t go in for Pawn scales (you might not use them either) so you’ll have to live without them in this case. Considering that this build should handily beat any other DK build for DPS and it has a painfully simple rotation (yes I know we’re not calling it a rotation any more) for a DK, you just might find yourself falling in love with beating the rogues, and perhaps even the mages while Dominating with this build

The Grand Melee - Quest - World of Warcraft

    Quoted from http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=13772:

The Grand Melee - Quest - World of Warcraft

I have found a really easy way to do this myself, and thought I would share.
    • First you get 3 stacks of Defend like the others have mentioned.
    • The Valiant will start walking off the direction it was facing before you talked to it. Start pressing Charge immediately to hit it in the back! XD
    • The instant you Charge start pressing Shield-Breaker. You can hit them with this ability almost instantly, since your mount will be running a quick circle to face your target. They should now only have 0 shields up right at the start of the fight before they even touch you!
    • Now just stand on top of of the Valiant and keep using the Thrust ability, and keep your Defend stacked to 3.
    • When the Valiant starts to walk away start spamming Charge followed up with the Shield-Breaker like mentioned above. You should be able to kill the Valiant within 30-45 seconds this way.
